New HBO Series:

Understanding and Overcoming Addiction

In partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), HBO is launching a multi-media campaign aimed at helping Americans understand addiction as a treatable brain disease.

Calling the campaign “unprecedented,” the partners say, “The series is eye-opening and ultimately hopeful, providing guidance on navigating the often confusing world of addiction treatment and recovery.”

The 14-part series will debut during a free HBO preview weekend (March 15 – 18 in participating cable systems). The series’ centerpiece documentary, ADDICTION, will air on Thursday, March 15 (9:00 – 10:30 pm ET/PT).  Communities and organizations across the country are encouraged to support the campaign by hosting screenings of the documentary, town hall meetings and other grass roots activities.  One portion of the documentary focuses on Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) – known as MAPs in LIUNA circles – and a successful drug-free workplace program (DFWP) in a union organization.
