The Laborers’ Health and Safety Fund of North America exists to:
- enhance jobsite safety and health
- improve the competitiveness of LIUNA signatory employers
- strengthen the Laborer's International Union of North America (LIUNA)
Our Fund embraces the collaborative strategy of LIUNA and its signatory employers to build market share for union Laborers. The Fund is managed jointly by equal numbers of trustees from labor and from management. It embodies the common interest of union members and union employers in the areas of health and safety.
We know that union labor is paid better and has a better benefits package than non-union labor. This adds to the operating costs of employers who sign union contracts.
However, we also know that LIUNA members are far better trained and generally more experienced than their non-union peers and that this fosters better production outcomes and enhanced reputation for signatory employers.
Further, we know that a safety conscious and healthy workforce has far less lost work time injuries and reduced workers’ compensation costs and that the on-going control of these expenses is a key element in improving signatory competitiveness in the market.
Finally, we know that outstanding, long-term occupational safety and health promotion programs mean happier, more fulfilling lives for Laborers and their families.
To serve the long-range interests of LIUNA members, we concentrate our attention to the more immediate needs of three core constituencies:
- signatory employers and their safety officers
- LIUNA business managers and agents
- health and welfare fund trustees and administrators
Our seasoned, professional staff of certified industrial hygienists, occupational health nurses, environmental health specialists, licensed clinical social workers, benefits specialists, computer services analysts and health researchers serves these constituencies through a variety of ever-evolving programs.
We are committed both to healthier Laborers and to healthier employer bottom lines. We’re here to help, and we welcome your input.
