Ergonomic Tip Sheets for Concrete Construction
With a grant from NIOSH via the Center to Protect Workers’ Rights, the LHSFNA Occupational Safety and Health Division partnered with LIUNA local unions 242, 440 and 1239, the University of Washington, Build It Smart (a labor-management alliance) and private safety consultants from the Stewart Prezant Ergonomics Group to identify and test a number of simple interventions to reduce sprains and strains in concrete construction. The partners first interviewed many Laborers on a variety of work sites to identify problems. Then, they developed remedies and returned to the sites for on-the-job testing. Based on worker feedback, these tip sheets were developed.
