“In addition to regular monthly member or retiree meetings,” says LHSFNA Management Co-Chairman Noel C. Borck, “many local unions, training centers and signatory employers will soon be holding picnics, family days and job fairs. Now is the time to contact the Fund for help in coordinating a health fair for your members and their families.”
Health fairs can provide an excellent opportunity for members and their dependents to have their blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar screened while receiving additional health related information. Many members put off going to the doctor for a variety of reasons including fear, a lack of time and, for some in these tough times, a lack of coverage. A health fair is a great way to provide initial screenings to give people a basic idea of their health status and what kind of follow-up may be necessary.
“Health fairs are provided free of charge to members and their dependents, and they are a great way to enhance various events,” says Borck, noting that many members benefit greatly from this service and look forward to it. “Health fairs are one of the most popular services provided by our Fund. Be sure to call and schedule your health fair with the LHSFNA at least two weeks prior to your event.”
