We are happy to announce the addition of a new staff member to the LHSFNA’s Health Promotion Division. In late November, Matthew Brown joined the Fund as our Health & Welfare Specialist. Matthew will primarily be responsible for supporting and providing technical assistance to LIUNA’s health and welfare funds and educating audiences on health care-related matters. His skills and experience will help the Fund ensure the continued provision of comprehensive health programs at an affordable cost.
“I’m excited to get started and help LIUNA’s health and welfare funds provide quality health care programs to LIUNA members and signatory contractors. The work these members perform every day can be hazardous to both their health and safety, so having access to affordable, top-notch health care is critical.”
Matthew has over 13 years of Health Policy and Promotion experience in both the private and public sectors. He served as a Congressional Liaison with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and was part of the Congressional Outreach Team during the passage and implementation of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act (MMA), which produced the largest overhaul of Medicare in the public health program’s history. Matthew also worked as a Health Insurance Specialist with CMS’ Office of External Affairs during the passage and initial implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and served as a technical assistance point of contact for health care providers.
Matthew has a B.A. in Justice from American University, a Paralegal Certification from Howard University and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Bowie State University. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys staying fit, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Please join us in welcoming Matthew to the LHSFNA family!
