General Wellness
Preventing disease and staying well contriubtes to a long life, satisfying career and more enjoyable retirement. The Health Promotion Division develops programs that deliver health messages and practical support to LIUNA members and their families. Wellness programs take many forms, including:
- Health fairs, where members and their families gain access to health information and diagnostic screening tests.
- Plan-specific wellness newsletters, exclusively designed for Laborers’ health and welfare plan participants, that explain new benefits and addresses health and wellness concerns that are prominent among LIUNA families.
- Health promotion classes, which focus on behavioral and/or health-related issues, how these issues relate to or impact the jobsite and how members can address these topics in the most effective way possible, both on and off the job.
- Health education materials, such as brochures, posters and health alerts on specific diseases or health conditions. These materials, available through the Fund’s online catalogue, can be distributed at health fairs, local union halls, toolbox talks, within paychecks or through health and welfare fund communications.
Tools for Health: Diet and Tobacco Tip Sheets
In a partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Health Promotion Division developed a series of Tools for Health tip sheets to help Laborers and their family members quit tobacco and develop healthier diets. Available in PDF format, the tip sheets can be downloaded in English or Spanish.
