Jamie F. Becker, Director
Jamie Becker is the Director of the Health Promotion Division for the Laborers’ Health & Safety Fund of North America (LHSFNA) in Washington, DC, and has been with the LHSFNA for over fifteen years. Jamie oversees Division issues spanning health care legislation, crisis management, wellness programming, benefit development, behavioral health, mental health, substance use disorders and drug free workplace programming. Jamie sits on numerous health and safety-related advisory committees and has been involved with several health and safety research studies.
Jamie has worked in the field of employee health and wellness for over twenty three years and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Emily Smith, Senior Benefit & Wellness Specialist
Emily Smith is the Senior Benefit & Wellness Specialist in the Health Promotion Division at the Laborers' Health & Safety Fund of North America. She has ten years of professional experience, five with the LHSFNA, focusing on public health, health education and workforce wellness. Emily is responsible for the Fund's initiatives, programs and publications that focus on wellness and disease prevention. Topical areas of interest include skin cancer prevention and sun protection, tobacco cessation, stress management, physical activity and nutrition. Emily takes a well-rounded, holistic approach to individual and population level health and wellness. She believes the biggest contributors to the success of one's health goals are meeting people where they are, starting small and building on effective behavior change, fostering positive social support networks and creating health-promoting physical environments.
Matthew Brown, Health & Welfare Specialist
Matthew Brown is the Health and Welfare Specialist for the Laborers' Health & Safety Fund of North America in Washington, DC. He is responsible for supporting and providing technical assistance to LIUNA health and welfare funds to ensure the continued provision of comprehensive health programs at an affordable cost. Matthew has over 13 years of Health Policy and Promotion experience in both the private and public sectors. Most notably, Matthew was a Congressional Liaison with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and served on the Congressional Outreach Team during the passage and implementation of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act (MMA), which produced the largest overhaul of Medicare in the public health program's history. Matthew also worked as a Health Insurance Specialist with CMS' Office of External Affairs during the passage and initial implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and served as a technical assistance point of contact for health care providers. Matthew has a B.A. in Justice from American University, a Paralegal Certification from Howard University and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Bowie State University.
