Effective January 1, 2014, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) eliminates all annual limits on covered essential benefits provided under LIUNA’s health and welfare funds.
Funds that have used annual and lifetime limits to control claims costs may face increased financial risk associated with high cost claims experience.
To help protect your fund’s assets and manage the financial risk associated with self-funding medical benefits in today’s changing health care market, the Laborers’ Health and Safety Fund of North America (LHSFNA) has partnered with The Union Labor Life Insurance Company (Union Labor Life) to offer you a group purchasing approach to Medical Stop Loss insurance.
The Laborers’ Group Medical Stop Loss Program helps funds maintain their financial viability and supports their own cost containment strategies with access to some of today’s leading professionals in the medical cost containment industry. The program offers competitive rates and a No New Lasers option at the next renewal for a premium increase as low as five percent to help fund sponsors reduce costs on Specific Stop Loss coverage.
The program offers opportunities for dividends that are based on the pool’s favorable experience and on annualized premiums based on the total premium level achieved for the program as established by the Agreement between the LHSFNA and Union Labor Life.
A flyer explaining the program is available. For more information on the program, contact Mary Jane MacArthur, Director of Health Promotion, LHSFNA (202-628-5465 or mjmacarthur@lhsfna.org) or Larry Paradise, Vice President of Union Labor Life Group Sales (630-743-4252 or lparadise@ullico.com).
